A: I enjoyed listening and talking to the guest speakers. Also, the tour at TechnipFMC was fantastic

A: It was a great opportunity to be part of this Council. The knowledge and experience learnt there are marvelous. I had a chance to expand my network and the mentors taught us a lot about the transition from student life to professional life.

A: We met a great number of Engineers working in the petroleum field and the council has a diversity of student coming for different Universities. My network was definitely expanded.

I am a current student at St. Mary’s University going for Mechanical Engineering. I’m also the oldest of 9 children, and a proud aunt of 4 nephews and one niece. My ultimate goal is to help the communities around me with the knowledge and success that is shared with me. I enjoy community service, soccer, dancing, movie theaters, and a good steak. My mother is the love of my life, and I strongly believe that this woman deserves the world and anything else she desires. My family is definitely my biggest motivator and there is nothing that I wouldn’t do for any of them.
Q: Where do you want to see yourself in 10 years?
A: In 10 years, I want to see myself working for a company that appreciates me and pushes me to be the best engineer that I can be. I want to own a home, and hopefully a few pets. Not sure if building a family of my own is truly what I want, but if it happens, I hope it is a happy one.
Q: How do you think, ASME will help you in your professional career
A: ASME has introduced me to an extensive network of professionals that I strongly believe will help me achieve my goals of being a successful engineer once I graduate. They’ve also taught me a lot of soft skills that you’re not taught in college, and it has given me the opportunity to lead and learn what that role entitles. It has also taught me the importance of giving back to your community even after college. For this, I hope to be involved with ASME for many years to come as I continue to learn more and more each time.
Q: What are the years served as a member of the council?
A: This year will be my fourth and last year being part of the council as an undergraduate.
Q: How did you hear about the ASME PD CC council and why did you apply?
A: I got an email from ASME international where it introduced the council and directed me on how to apply. I decided to apply because I was looking for experience, and I figured the worst thing that could happen would be to get rejected. The application didn’t cost anything, so I decided to go for it and I got it!
Q: What did you like the most during the first meeting of ASME PD CC?
A: IMy favorite part during the first meeting is getting to know my new colleagues. We are all different people coming from different places, but at the end of the day we are all there because we want to be successful engineers, and I believe that we will be. Therefore, it’s exciting to learn where these people come and to imagine them in my professional network for many years to come after sharing such a great experience together.
Q: What was your contribution for the council project?
A: I’ve worked in many projects for the council in the years that I have been involved, but this year I am actually helping assist as an intern by helping those that have not been a part of the council before.
Q: Describe your experience as a member of the council
A: I’ve decided to stay involved in this program because it truly is a great opportunity to grow as a young professional. The council has taught me a lot from the latest equipment and technology to the manners that should be exercised in a working environment. Overall, I believe that being part of this council has helped me become a well-rounded individual.
Q: Who do you think can apply to the ASME PD CC?
A: I think that anyone going for undergraduate or graduate studies in any engineering field related to the oil and gas industry should apply to the council. For example, mechanical, petroleum, chemical, environmental science, electrical, management, computer, etc. At the end of the day, all of these fields come together in a working environment.

My name is Nathaniel Vislosky I am a Junior at the Pennsylvania State University perusing a degree in Petroleum engineering. I grew up in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania going to Central Catholic Highschool where I played hockey and threw for the track and field team. I started off my engineering career as an engineering intern for NASA my senior year of high school, following this internship, entering my freshman year of college I began interning with Chevron and have been for the past two years going onto my third summer in 2020 in the Permian Basin. In my free time I enjoy going to the gym and spending time with my friends and family.
Q: Where do you want to see yourself in 10 years?
A: My goal in 10 years is to be a digital transformation officer. Being a digital transformation officer would involve evaluating new digital tools and techniques that could be brought to the enterprise to improve workflow efficiency and put management ahead of the decision curve on critical project decisions.
Q: How do you think, ASME will help you in your professional career
A: ASME will help my professional career through networking with higher up individuals in different companies to help me expand my view of the industry to help give me a competitive edge and keen insights that I would lack if I were to not expand my network with ASME. As well I believe ASME will provide me with the tools and resources necessary to search out the latest information on the Oil and Gas industry so I can keep up to date with all the necessary API standards and technologies.

A: I am currently the team lead for the database management team giving guidance on the objectives and vision for the project along with evaluating two separate pieces of software for our new data warehouse that we may possibly implement this coming spring.

A: My experience with the council has been positive. I have developed a more thorough understanding of the Oil and Gas industry, I have networked with key professionals to expand my network and gain knowledge about there careers and what guidance they could give me on making sure my career is a success, and toured multiple facilities to get hands on experience with Oil and Gas equipment and tools.

A: Anyone with a passion to learn more about the Oil and Gas industry should certainly consider applying to the council especially if they see themselves working in the industry after graduation.

I’m a mechanical engineer who comes from the petroleum capitol’s of Mexico (Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche), With the new government of Mexico, many national projects are running as the construction of a new refinery and the entering of international investment, for all mentioned above I want to learn as much as I can and be prepared for all the requirements new generation engineers might need for the petroleum industry. The most important goal of my life as future professional is acquiring new knowledge day by day in order to be the best mechanical engineer, applying my knowledge to my community problems. Also, I want to share my experiences to other students in order to encourage them to participate in the most important events globally through its making the student community grow in quality terms.

A: I want to continue my developing inside ASME volunteer activities at same time working in the conception of my own company.

A: ASME through its programs has been helping me in the developing of soft skills which from my perspective are skills that as students we do not have the opportunity to learn by studying. These skills are too important nowadays in a world which has a high competence and requirements for engineers.

A: Through a friend who was past member of the council, the mainly reason of my application was that I live in a city which is the petroleum capitol of my country and that I’m very interested in developing my career in this engineering area

I grew up in a small town called Palmer, Alaska, nestled in the Matanuska Susitna Valley about 50 miles north of Anchorage Alaska. I have a younger brother and an older sister, played sports in high school, and married my childhood sweetheart. I earned a BS in Accounting from Boise State University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. I am currently working full time in the energy industry and pursuing a MS in Petroleum Engineering. I enjoy lifting weights, reading about history, learning, philosophy, and thinking, but most of all spending family time with my wife and three small children. My favorite music is British and Russian folk music, and my favorite authors are J.R.R. Tolkien and Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
Q: Where do you want to see yourself in 10 years?
A: In ten years, I see myself working as a professional petroleum engineer in Alaska and continuing to provide for and lead my family financially and spiritually.
Q: How do you think, ASME will help you in your professional career
A: ASME provides excellent opportunities to meet and network with like minded people interested in the energy industry and more broadly in engineering. There are local chapters almost everywhere, and it’s always good to keep your face out there for potential opportunities with employers and colleagues. You never know what the future holds!
Q: What are the years served as a member of the council?
A: I served once previously on the council during the 2017-2018 school year, during my undergraduate studies in mechanical engineering. This is my second time being honored to serve on the PD CC.
Q: How did you hear about the ASME PD CC council and why did you apply?
A: I initially heard about ASME PD CC after becoming vice president of the ASME chapter at my university. An outgoing senior had joined the PD CC and recommended it to anyone who was interested in getting a great experience and exposure to the energy industry. I applied because I believe it adds great value to my education, exposure to other students and ideas, and in general is a unique opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and learn.
Q: What did you like the most during the first meeting of ASME PD CC?
A: To me, the people were excellent and everyone got along, was inquisitive, and hungry to learn. This is a great sign and made the whole experience one to remember! The organization and schedule were top notch as always.
Q: What was your contribution for the council project?
A: My contribution for the council project is researching alternative storage options for ASME PD CC files so we can organize and simplify the database of documents.
Q: Describe your experience as a member of the council
A: My experience has been enriching - meeting other students, mentors, and industry professionals has given me real insight into what to expect from a career in energy, and has helped me develop interpersonal skills. The projects have been useful mainly because you are forced to deal with real world constraints - time, geography, scheduling and deliverables.
Q: Who do you think can apply to the ASME PD CC?
A: I think students who are eager to learn about the energy industry and have a real interest in oil and gas careers should apply. The industry isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, despite what academics might say. Almost everything in modern society is touched by petroleum products.

My name is Klajdi Sosoli and I am currently a Senior studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Connecticut. On top of Engineering, I am also very passionate about business and have worked to attain a minor in Engineering Management-Business as well. Through the past three years of college I have attained two internship roles in the Aerospace Industry working for United Technologies Corporation and another internship role in the Petroleum Industry working for Royal Dutch Shell.
I was born in Korce, Albania and later moved to Connecticut, USA where I have spent the last 14 years of my life. I truly enjoy being involved and have worked hard to hold several leadership roles throughout the past years. During my free time I also enjoy giving back to the community and have performed over 500 hours of community service through different organizations like Key-Club-International, Relay-for-Life, Huskython, Community Outreach, Habitat-for-Humanity and more.

I am Shuaijun Li, a third year PhD student in mechanical engineering at City College of New York. I have a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering and a master’s degree in geotechnical engineering. Now I am pursuing my doctorate degree in mechanical engineering. My research focuses on the transport of soft particles in porous media by understanding the mechanism of the transport of the soft particles in pore throats, considering the correlation between microscale parameters such as mechanical property of the microgels, the size of the microgels and the pore throat, and the large scale parameters like permeability of the porous media. Gel treatment in enhanced oil recovery is an efficient and common approach and involves such transport phenomenon. My research results can directly benefit the oil/gas industry. I am passionate about finding and solving engineering problems. I would like to contribute myself to petroleum engineering.
Besides my research, I love swimming, cooking, photography, ping-pong, and making new friends.
Q: Where do you want to see yourself in 10 years?
A: I would like to be an engineering scientist or an engineer. I am open to work both in oil/gas industry or in academia to do research in the oil/gas industry.

A: I received the email from the council. I decided to apply because I realized that it would be a great opportunity to learn the practical knowledge about oil/gas industry from the tour in the company and build network with the people in the field. A: The most I liked in the first meeting was the tour in Gyrodata and listening to the presentations by the speakers. Visiting Gyrodata gave me the first-hand drilling engineering knowledge and I obtained various knowledge/techniques in oil/gas industry from the speakers in different fields.

A: I am in social media team. The goal of our team is by promoting the popularity of the council, attract more students in related fields to join the council and contribute to the oil/gas industry. I am responsible for posting the council or oil/gas industry related topics on Instagram.

A: I had a great experience in the council since the first meeting. I enjoyed the meetings/activities a lot. I am happy that I made good friends who have the same professional interests in the council. I enjoyed the tour in Gyrodata and I learned much in drilling practical engineering knowledge. I enjoyed the presentations from the speakers. Not only did I learn oil/gas industry related knowledge but also I built network with the speakers. Also I enjoyed the bowling fun night and the adventure game morning, which provided a great opportunity for us to know one another and strengthened our relationships among the members in the council.

I was born in North Carolina and have lived in multiple states around the U.S. over the course of my life. In 2008, my daughter Jasmine was born and it changed my life forever. I became focused on my studies and pursuing a career in engineering as a way to give my daughter and myself a better life. I am the first person in my family to pursue a higher education.
I started out my college career at Lee Community College in Baytown, TX before coming to the University of Houston. In addition to being active with ASME, I am Vice President for another organization on campus called She’s the First. Our organization conducts fundraising events to raise funds for girls’ education in third world countries. I have also participated in some interesting projects throughout my college career. I built an underwater operated vehicle when I was a part of the robotics club in my community college, as well as an innovative bridge support design fabricated from popsicle sticks. I am especially proud of this project since it was able to support over eighteen hundred pounds when tested. Finally, my senior design Capstone project is being sponsored by Bechtel Corporation, which has given me the opportunity to work closely with a large company before I enter the workforce.

A: I see myself working for a great company where I enjoy what I do every day. I would still be a part of ASME and potentially a mentor where I can give back as well. I would want to give back because of all the experience I received while being a student.

A: ASME PD will help in my professional career because of the knowledge received from professionals that spoke to us about the industry and tours given during our meetings. ASME PD has also helped me with my professional career by expanding my network from meeting professionals at events that were available.

A: When I applied to be a part of ASME, I registered to my chapter and nationally. By being a part of the ASME nationally, I receive emails where I found the information about ASME PD CC.

A: I enjoyed taking the tour at a facility and getting to hear what some of the problems are in the field from Dena Demboski.
Q: What was your contribution to the council project?
A: As being a part of the E-Fests Team, I will assist with organizing a booth and seminar for the 2020 E-Fests North. I will create a cost analysis, determine promotional items, prepare a presentation for the seminar, and organize an itinerary schedule for the event.

A: I experienced a welcoming environment with a group of college students that all have interests in the same industry. Along with the students, there is a welcoming environment from the mentors that want to help their students any way that they can.

I was born in Maturin, Venezuela. Maturin is the capital of Monagas, which is one of the biggest oil and gas producer in the country. My dad is a Petroleum Engineer working in PDVSA, my mom is taking care of both at home. I have always lived with the idea that petroleum is the way to go, to improve and be better. I study Mechanical Engineering at UNACAR because I like the versality it has, in how many topics mechanical engineers can get involved. 79 I migrated to Mexico since I was 11, because Schlumberger transferred him to Poza Rica, Veracruz, where I lived one year. After that I came to Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche; The Mexican Gulf produces the biggest percentage of oil in Mexico, so I had the opportunity to go to visits and see how things are done 135 here, my objective is to share all this with all my colleagues.
Q: Where do you want to see yourself in 10 years?
A: I see myself happy, with a family and a good job. To be able to get them everything they need.

A: It can help me by knowing people and getting involve in internal projects that can help me improve my soft skills.

Q: How did you hear about the ASME PD CC council and why did you apply?
A: First time a classmate named Jonathan Pacheco told me about it one day at school, then Erick Pena went last year and told me to try, I applied because I want to start looking that direction in my career, it think it is a field that has too much to offer.

A: I liked how the mentors made us understand the importance of networking.
Q: What was your contribution for the council project?
A: I’m in social media team in charge of Facebook page, and I’m becoming involved in giving more presence to the Council in Mexico to more Universities.

A: It was very rewarding to know about companies and make relations between other members.

A: I think everybody should try, and once they are given the opportunity to come, They have to become that better version They must be in order to become a good professional.

A: I will be graduating with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from California State University, Los Angeles, in December 2021. My favorite pastimes are singing and swimming. I also enjoy visiting friends and family around the world and making new friendships.
I have served as External Vice President of the Cal State LA ASME student chapter in 2016-2017 in which I liaised between students, the mechanical engineering department, and ASME. I organized a panel for students to learn about a wide array of projects and activities on campus. I would like to inaugurate an annual plenary and workshops at Cal State LA beginning in spring 2021 that I will begin organizing in spring 2020. The purpose of the plenary presentation is for students to learn about ASME technical divisions including the petroleum division and to consider the career options within the petroleum industry, for example. If it were not for me joining the ASME Petroleum Division Collegiate Council I would not be able to inform other students about opportunities within ASME (leadership, scholarships, etc.) and moreover would not have a wide outlook on future professions.
Q: Where do you want to see yourself in 10 years?
A: In a decade I would like to be working as a part time faculty of a university as well as working as an engineer. In the upcoming academic year I will be taking the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and later the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam. I am interested in so many areas of engineering and would like to explore different options that are suitable for me. One career option that I am considering is developing improved methods and equipment to produce oil and gas from the oceans.
I also strive to integrate myself as a leader within the America Society of Mechanical Engineers and to make a donation to award scholarships to students. I find mechanical engineering to be a rewarding educational track and would strongly recommend students to consider a career in STEM which aligns with their current interests and provides intellectual challenges.

A: ASME will serve in my professional growth by providing opportunities to present at conferences and serve in a leadership capacity within ASME throughout my career.

Q: How did you hear about the ASME PD CC council and why did you apply?
A: I heard about the ASME Petroleum Division Collegiate Council in an email. I applied to serve on the collegiate council because I want to meet other students in ASME and I want to learn about careers in the petroleum industry.
Q: What did you like the most during the first meeting of ASME PD CC?
A: The most enjoyable aspect of the first meeting is learning that I will be working with my teammates on a project between October and April that will contribute to improving the collegiate council.
Q: What was your contribution for the council project?
A: My contribution to the project is two deliverables that will be presented at the second collegiate council in April. The first deliverable is a presentation that is designed to inform students about the application process. The second deliverable is another presentation that is designed to demonstrate the value of the collegiate council.
Q: Describe your experience as a member of the council
A: My experience in the collegiate council has been very nice because my team and I have worked well together and are supportive. This experience given me an opportunity to build teamwork skills such as communicating across several time zones, organizing my time to submit tasks on time, asking mentors for guidance in our project, and much more.

A: I believe that all ASME student members may apply to the ASME Petroleum Division Collegiate Council and must be prepared to propagate involvement in ASME.

Jamie is currently a M.S. Mechanical Engineering graduate student at Texas A&M University. He has two years of work experience prior to continuing his education where one year was spent in Upstream oil and gas and the other with UPS as a plant engineering supervisor. He is very multidisciplinary and is interested in a career as a production engineer in Upstream oil and gas.
Jamie lives in College Station, TX with his lovely wife Miranda who is a graduate student studying social work at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. They both are very passionate about disaster relief and community relations.
Q: Where do you want to see yourself in 10 years?
A: In a technical or project engineering role relating to production engineering in Upstream oil and gas.
Q: How do you think ASME will help you in your professional career
A: ASME PD has excellent mentors that not only know the petroleum industry, but also have great wisdom and experience working in a team setting corporate environment. The mentors will help me better understand what the industry is looking for in a candidate, educate me on the industry to better equip me for interviews, and provide networking opportunities with real industry facility tours. Also, working in a team environment with other young professionals enables networking opportunities that can last a life-time. Employers are looking for candidates that “win by a foot in the marathon against other candidates,” as mentor Don Wells put it, and ASME PD is nurturing leadership attributes in us to enable me to do so.

A: This is my first time serving 2019-2020.
Q: How did you hear about the ASME PD CC council and why did you apply?
A: I heard about ASME PD CC through my network. They encouraged me to reach out to current mentor Don Wells to learn about ASME PD CC and encouraged me to apply. I applied because this is exactly what I have been missing my entire academic and professional career. I needed to get involved in a leadership organization and the ASME PD CC is the perfect organization that fits my passions and goals. I also highly value pursuing greater wisdom in my early career and the mentors here have a plethora to share.
Q: What did you like the most during the first meeting of ASME PD CC?
A: The passion in young engineering students wanting to learn more about the petroleum industry (some currently interning in it, others considering it). I liked seeing ASME PD CC members contributing to conversations and interacting with each other. The networking and sharing of knowledge were great between mentors and young professionals. I really liked the tour visits as those provide networking opportunities and educate us on what is currently happening or the technology that is in practice right now.
Q: What was your contribution for the council project?
A: I am on the data management team and currently each of us are researching two independent data management software to come together and decide on the most optimal one for our scope of work here at ASME PD.
Q: Describe your experience as a member of the council
A: Rewarding and Character Building. I find it rewarding to share knowledge or experiences with other young professionals that are wanting to learn more or pursue wisdom. I also find it very rewarding to have excellent mentors helping me with my early career and physically being involved in a project that will benefit ASME PD. Networking with young professionals, being mentored to be a leader, and going on facility tours are building my character as a young professional.

A: Engineering students that are interested in a career in the petroleum industry and wanting to be a better leader. The way the head of recruitment filters out candidates is up to them.

Q: Where do you want to see yourself in 10 years?
A: I see myself managing big industrial operations like designing new and efficient machines with other engineers, creating useful and helpful policies that will benefit human race and so on.

A: It first started as been a member of ASME, which I got promotional emails indicating various opportunities and from that point after going through the content of the council I was motivated to apply to get involved and meet people in the industry.

A: What I liked most in my first meeting was the organization of the program, which followed the given schedule. Next was the places visited, the nice hotel for accommodation and feeding was such a great experience I liked

A: This was part of my project for the group. I contributed by help in searching for a better storage system that will be good in storing all the data that the group has as it expands it operation and also help spreading the words of this group t my school.

I was born in McAllen, Texas, but raised in Monterrey, Mexico until I was 5 and moved here to start school here in San Juan, Texas elementary to high school and every summer kept going back to Monterrey. I am a full-time student at St Mary’s University now and I am trying my best to be #1 always want to be on top of everything managing my time between school and fun activities. I want to do this for my family because I come from a low income family and this is going to help my parents and put a good name on the Mexican race being successful in the US.
Q: Where do you want to see yourself in 10 years?
A: I want to be a successful engineer in the petroleum industry and be working in a company where I am important and be able to afford things, I would have to rely on my parents to have even if just simple things that I need

A: The council will help me not only because I want to focus in the petroleum industry but as an engineering you get a really great view of the real world and the real work place and what exactly you have to do which is what many people do not know when they think engineering.

A: I heard about the council at my university by professors and seniors in which I asked if you were in my shoes again what would you have done and they surely said join the council as soon as I could, and I did.

A: I liked the ability to meet people from all over the US and have contacts always be able to keep communication with them and just they fact that they take us to see different companies and how they work and give us the insight on the projects they have the work they do.
Q: What was your contribution for the council project?
A: I along with Hafizur have the opportunity to modify and upgrade the website to make it more useful for both the mobile and the laptop version. We want to be more informative as in how and what exactly we do in the council so more people are interested because I know that if we show what we do a lot more people will ant to join.

A: so far, I have a really good experience I enjoyed the tours I enjoyed the people and their companionship and more than all the guides from both the mentors.

A: In 10 years I see myself with a loving wife and kids, working at a refinery, chevron, shell or one of many others.

A: ASME has helped me already. They have helped me determine what line of work I want to go into and plan on going into. They have absolutely set my mind on the petroleum industry.

Q: How did you hear about the ASME PD CC council and why did you apply?
A: I heard about the collegiate council through a school-wide email sent out by our dept chair. I applied because I wanted to know more about the petroleum industry because many of my friends that weren’t in engineering wanted to work in chevron as an operator, and I wanted to learn more about the engineering side of things.
Q: What did you like the most during the first meeting of ASME PD CC?
A: I like having top of the line mentors. I have seen multiple times where our mentors knew more about the information than the people at the plants, that were actually presenting the information. I love being able to apply the things learned in the classroom to the real world. I’m not a big “book person” im more hands on, so the fact that we were shown how the things we were studying in-class is applied out in the field, means a lot to me.
Q: What was your contribution for the council project?
A: Well, we are on the promotions team and we contribute the promotions and things that ASME send out to promote the council. I have created a document that at first just described the council, but now, since the changes, it actually promoted the council.
Q: Describe your experience as a member of the council
A: My experience as a council member is a once in a lifetime ordeal. I never realized how much there was to learn or that I was even interested in petroleum. My experience has been top-notch, I know that the petroleum field is one that I want to go into.
Q: Who do you think can apply to the ASME PD CC?
A: Any Mechanical engineer that is a member of ASME can apply to be apart of the council. Whether they have an interest in petroleum or not, on the council, they will find out but I really feel that every mechanical engineer should apply since you never know what you like until you experience it. Just like vanilla ice cream, you never knew you liked it, til’ you tried it.
